Following up on my other post on the rain barrel, I wanted to share a simple digital fluid gauge I created. This small 3D printed enclosure houses the following parts:
- 7-segment display
5161AS us-100ultrasonic sensor- 3.4v LiPo rechargeable battery
- Toggle switch
- Teensy 4.0 (overkill but we love the Teensy)
The seven segment display will show a value from 9 (full) to 0 (empty). I’ve programed the display to blink a few times while powering up because I found the initial readings from the ultrasonic sensor unstable. Giving it a few seconds to level out fixes the problem.
On the rear a snug base plate is attached with 4 screws. Light use of hot glue helps everything stay watertight. Only time will tell if I did a good job on that front.
